Insulin degludec is an ultra-long-acting insulin with activity similar to that of endogenous human insulin and is used to treat hyperglycemia caused by type 1 and type 2 diabetes. After acylation of the B-chain and removal of a terminal threonine, insulin degludec is active at physiological pH and its duration of action is significantly prolonged to 42 hours.
